I certainly don't want to ruin the friendship. I would just appreciate my friends having trust in me and the decisions I make in regular matters and those involving the heart.

That is perfectly understandable. But I imagine their concern stems from their affection for you. Why not use this chance to let your friendship mature instead of allowing misunderstanding and resentment to fester.

We've been friends for over ten years! I'm not quite sure the word affection applies. It's something more than like extreme admiration which can be a bit suffocating at times.

I see, that is certainly problematic. But it only makes having an open, mature conversation all the more unavoidable. If you explain your rationale behind your decisions maybe they will become easier for the friend in question to accept. I imagine the thought that somebody might come in and steal your attention away has scared him.

He's being an idiot. I clearly give my attention to multiple people. Adding another one into the mix shouldn't be that big of a deal. The rationale is easy. Adrian is very attractive, he's good in bed, he understands tennis, enjoys art, and, so far, likes my friends. Besides, if anything were really seriously wrong, Yanagi would've warned me.

My dear Yukimura-han. I hate to tell you this but feelings are only very rarely rational. Your friend has to deal with somebody coming into your life and filling a spot he does not occupy. Insecurity, tesentment and even jealousy are not that uncommon a reaction to this. It marks after all a turning point toward adulthood. Assure him of his place in your affections and I am sure he will come to at first at least grudgingly accept the fact that you are a grown man who will see other people to give you things your friend can not. Again this process will become easier over time when he understands that just like you have something with Adrian he does not share in there is something between such old friends that Adrian has no share in.
